Self-Reliance
It is hard to sentence being self-reliance to be a bad thing or not. Trace back to the history, a lot of green figures are kind of self-reliance. As a success man, they should insist on what they are working on and thinking about, it would be cut in the half way if they succumb to the commoner's word.Sometimes, it would be hard for others who are the commoners to understand what they are doing. For examble, Issac Newton, one of the best scientist in the world .When he was a little child, he started thinking about why the apple would fall down but not rise up.Obviously, this is a silly question which is questioned by a stupid guy even for us who are in such a modern world.However, he insisted on it, and finally excogitated Newton's law and Gravitation to explain his silly apple! How amazing it is! If I were him, I must have given up this idea for the people's comment and suspicion of me, for I am not self-reliance enough to deal with them. From this case, it tells us being self-reliance can be the key to accomplish great work which is not done nor studied before and seemed to be foolish; with self-reliance, we can travel in our minds without interruption and doubt, as if we are the Buddhist who is doing meditation, focusing on one thing so that it can be done more efficient.
It is not that easy to control this kind of sense, even if you are smart and self-possessed people. Look at Newton again, although his former-life is full of realistic and excellent scientific theories, he became too self-reliance so he started studying something more theatrical which he may regard it as more advanced science which is religion. It is such a pity he gave up his science and was engaged in religion such a fantasy. In the real world, some self-reliance people are like Newton, they become isolated from the real world and focus on what they think is right. It does not only harmful to their business but their personalities. At the begining, they may just think of some crazy fantasy stuff and not concentrate on other things, afterward, they may even become isolated from outside, becoming silent; what is worse, they think up some bad thought and finally do it in the real world.

in Rip Van Winkle, there are kinds of people, most of them are industrious and enthusiastic about politics, and some of them are mean and selfish. People become to concern about politics is supposed to be a good thing,however,if this behavior go too fast, it may cause many unreasonable suspicions among people.So,I want to talk about unbelieving human nature.
Suspicion should not exist in the primordial time, people were open to each other, they stay in peace and happiness, there is even no crime and conflict among them.However,since the society is improving, people become greedy, to achieve their goal, they are always suspicious of others. As a result, there is an unseen gap among people, people start to hide themselves deeper, and doubt and jealousy are filled in the society. For example, it is hard for us to imagine this happened during my elementary school time. The class was a warm family at first, however, after a trimester, the girls broke into groups and somehow they started intriguing against each other. Nevertheless that was done behind us, they became more outward. No matter their behavior hurts others or not, it did make our class into chaos. Classmates seem not to believe anyone any more, it was no longer for us to organize them to make some party or class activities. In a short, it is a disaster that that happens in such an immature community. From that, we can conclude suspicion can be very devastating. It is a main reason for the instability of the society, it is the result of the bad mind of human, and at last, it will bring some disasters to us, to destroy such an untruthful society.

Significance of the passage
I think, in this passage, John Locke tells us that if man cans things without laws, they may go too far and only concern about themselves. It will make the society spate and dangerous; esperically, if the king's power was not limited or supervised by law but nature law. In the long time, in this chaotic order, the society was usually controlled by a remiss king, however, although people would finally know what they should do to deal with the problem, with the inheritance of the throne, they could not do anything because they would think the king was appointed by God. That is a good but ridiculous reason for the so-called monarch to save their throne.So,John Locke reminded us that we should establish a government even if there is a king, that was supervised by law so that to make the society harmonious.

Historical context
what we have read so far, are basically based on religion and political figures. For example, Cotton Mather and Jonathan Edward, who are two of the most important puritan and Christian religions figures in America history.Also,in the past years, religion were usually used with political motive. Benjamin Franklin, who was one of the founder of U.S, didn’t believe religion can stay in government so that it would interrupt government's policies and justice.Also, he is the model for the other three, although they were all excellent figures in American literature; they thought Benjamin Franklin's virtue was gracious especially for his saving of time.Then, Thomas Paine, supporter of American, is guided of the ideas which made out of others make together. John Locke, who published two treatises on government, was the creator of the ideas of American constitution. His ideas of free press, equal rights before law, influence the following generation in Europe, even in America.
Also, what we read is a process which proves the oral literature to written literature. In Native American literature and the other literature which were written, they were different. The oral literature seems more candid. The written literature carries more personal emotion

Learning is perfecting
as being a member in a community, everyone has his own responsibility to make it better. To make it, we should learn more about others and learn as wide as we can so that we can perfect it in each aspect.Also, even if a little Chile has his own mind, but it bases on his living environment. Human is born as a "blank slate”, only the knowledge from the circumambience can shape our mind.
There are uncountable and various communities in the society; there is not a perfect community too. Everyone has its forte and shortcoming. So it is necessary to learn about other communities to perfect ours. For example, every day I read the news, it is a way to learn about other communities and get the information we need. Sometimes it does us our community.Also; it is more direct to learn from other country. Country is more complicated than a community which we concern the most. And it is easy to find "stars or dots" from a country because country's characteristic is obvious such as U.S is more democratic but cultural than China. North Korean is as radical as Iran. People can judge if a country has done wrong and why it did that from different aspect. Through the analysis we did, we can get more and deep views and syncretism it with those we have gotten right now.
We can get knowledge through learning. As John Lock believed, human was born as "blank slate”, it means we know nothing as a new-born baby. While we are born, we learn things in the first second, it is amazing. How and why new-born babies want to learn? It is human nature. In this complicated society, we get so many information everyday, and we need to select what we need so that we won’t get confused and form a wrong mind. Although we can filtrate information ourselves, it doesn't work all the time. There are crimes everyday, those cases result from their education and what types of information they get in the daily life. If a teen often stays with some immature and fainéant friends, they are getting bad information even though he think he has take out the bad things; it means people often form mind without realizing it. So different types of knowledge can affect people to be good or bad, conservative or radical.

Today we talked about the universe.Universe is consisted of galaxies.Why and how the universe created?That is an impossible mission.Although Newton has explained how the gravity control the planet movement,there are a lot of questions to be answered still.Astronomy is not as important as before,however,it is the basic of religion and human beings.
